Short Handed for the Opener

Losing Torsten Frings to his announced retirement definitely put a damper on momentum coming into the new season. Wins never come from 1 player, it takes a team of players to win, but now the club is essentially playing with 14 players until a suitable replacement can be found. Matt Reis will also be absent for this game.

Early Setback

It's with great sadness that Gold Coast FC will be losing Torsten Frings to retirement. The news comes days before the first game of the season and puts the club in a position to have to shop free agency a lot sooner than expected. "At this time Gold Coast will not be releasing Frings opting to keep him as a reserve on the roster until such a replacement can be determined through free agency. Frings 2012 points have value in the bidding war market and with some luck he may still be of some use to the season." said a Suns spokesperson.

Looking for Consistency

The scouting reports and depth charts are starting to come in from around the league. "The competitive level in the BSL is at an all-time high." said a Suns spokesperson.

Optimism is running high at the moment as the Suns have locked up some crafty veterans to help bring a level of consistency to the club.

"To build a champion the right kind of players are needed. The kind of players that spread out their points. It's not easy to forecast, but that is the plan at least."

Higuain Arrives!

After an active week with several trade talks commencing between an array of BSL clubs, Gold Coast FC has inked a deal to obtain Federico Higuain from Burud Town SC in exchange for a first round pick. "If he was available in the draft he would have been our pick in the first round. Higuain was the best offensive player to end the 2012 season. He exploded in the final months including August and September, when BTSC was not active in playoffs and Majors Cup fixtures, as well as October, when the BSL schedule had concluded . Gold Coast FC is officially making Higuain the clubs 2nd Designated Player.
